These painted cases are truly exquisite. The bamboo is sanded, fired, images engraved. Multiple coats of paint are applied, sanded, and sealed. A top coat is then applied, and sanded to reveal portions of the base coats. Gold accents are then adorned into the engravings and finished with a high gloss lacquer.. The final stages involve the accent wrappings, fitting the cap, typically in the "Inro" style with a Netsuke and tassel. They truly look like Museum pieces.
